Wings & Water Retreat

I loved being able to do yoga and try qigong - especially those early morning classes up in the Sky Temple, with the sun rising and the chorus of tropical birds and that clean, clean air.

Saturday, February 9 - Saturday, February 16, 2013

Join yoga and qigong students from the Two Dog Yoga community for a special retreat in the village of Yelapa, Mexico. Each day, students will deepen their practice in yoga or qigong at the Sky Temple, while exploring the richness and commonalities of each other’s form. Small groups keep the instruction intimate and focused. Special excursions and village adventures round out the days. Morning practices will be followed by optional group events, private sessions, hammock lounging and time for exploring the area.

Yelapa, Jalisco is a 45-minute boat ride from Puerto Vallarta. Accessible only by boat, the village has a remote, pristine feel. Donkeys are the preferred mode of transporting goods around the village. Surrounded by jungle-rich mountains and skirting a clean, sandy bay, Yelapa boasts the best of tropical resorts without the tourist traps and crowds. Participants stay at Los Suenos, where meals are shared and accommodations are rustic but comfortable. Instruction is conducted in a stunning hillside open-air studio. Beach time, snorkeling, hikes, boat rides, bird-watching and dolphin/whale viewing are optional additions to this restorative vacation week.

Daily Flow

Participants need to determine their form of focus--either yoga or qigong--prior to the trip. Yoga participants should have at least three months experience; a unique approach to Anusara-style yoga will be taught. Qigong participants will focus on Sheng Zhen Gong--no experience required--and practices of Soaring Crane Qigong will be offered to those who know the form.

Early mornings will feature optional meditative practices. A midmorning longer session provides the daily backbone of practice and instruction. Afternoons feature free time, optional outings or class offerings open to all regardless of form. Evenings can include group discussion, games, village meandering or time alone.

Past excursions have included hiking to a local waterfall to swim, taking a boat tour to Las Marietas islands for snorkeling and whalewatching or learning to make tamales in a local family's home. There'll be time for beach hanging, private lessons or body work with local practitioners.

The QIGONG Group; Martha will be teaching practices from Sheng Zhen Gong, called the 'Qigong of Unconditional Love'. While no experience is required, participants would benefit from a familiarity with qigong. Many participants know Soaring Crane Qigong; daily practices with or without Martha will be scheduled.

The YOGA Group:  Annie will be teaching Anusara-inspired yoga, emphasizing alignment in the body, reflection on attitude and celebration of the heart. Daily classes build on one another to create a sequential whole. Students need to have three months minimum experience in any yoga form to participate.

As odd as it sounds, the jungle beauty of Yelapa with the warmth of the culture was the most luxurious adventure I've ever had. I'm not talking 5-star hotel, I'm talking the luxury of living and discovering your 5-star spirit. Don't miss Yelapa! We all need this type of adventure, assurance and luxury that Wings & Water delivers.
