Yoga

Yoga is a path of curiosity and commitment. At Two Dog, we study the body, mind and heart, while cultivating greater resilience, balance and fullness in our lives. A bud does not tell us the shape of the blossom to come; the sun, rain and environment challenge and guide the flower to unfold into its unique natural splendor. Your focus and effort within the practice of Yoga will effect your own unfolding. As you look and listen to the world outside and inside, a relationship with yoga nurtures a deeper union with your life path.

Our teachings are primarily inspired by Anusara Yoga, a style of yoga founded by John Friend. With an emphasis on alignment in body, reflection on attitude and celebration of the heart, Anusara focuses on asana (poses) that physically stretch and strengthen the body while tending to the quality of heart. Reflecting on our own response to life, our bodies become the vessel within which our awakening energetic and emotional alignment can be known, enhanced and directed.

New students are welcome to join the practice of yoga at Two Dog, with or without prior experience. Intro classes guide newcomers in a safe, small, supportive environment. Experienced yoga students will find classes ranging from gentle through advanced, in a variety of styles. Ranging from small with lots of individual attention to large with an abundance of community spirit, Two Dog classes are inclusive, encouraging and safe. Themes such as 'strength', 'shapes in nature' and the 'yamas' (inner attitudes) inform the rhythm and essence of a class series.

I was fortunate almost seven years ago to have picked Two Dog Yoga for my first yoga experience. I found a beautiful space, kind and knowledgeable teachers, and the warmth of community. The effects of my time at Two Dog have been gradual, subtle, yet profound; I've developed a deeper body awareness based on a greater sense of integration, a more easeful emotional balance, and a joyful willingness to explore the edges of what I think I can do. I love the "heart" that Anusara brings to yoga, and I love how Two Dog brings that "heart" to life!
